Heavy falls of snow on the Taieri during the recent winter months mean some of your favourite blooms may not be on display at this year's Maungatua Church Spring Flower Show.

Organising committee member Colleen Bathgate said the annual display of spring flowers at the Maungatua Church Hall, in Outram, traditionally included daffodils, freesia, anemone, ranunculus, polyanthus, hyacinth, pansy, trillium, hellebore, rhododendron and other flowering shrubs, and a collection of native plants.

But because there had been many snowfalls during the winter and into early spring, some of the flowers might be late blooming, Mrs Bathgate said.

''It may be that some of these flowers aren't on display this year.

''I could imagine the snow would affect certain plants.''

The organisers always warned the weather might affect entries, Mrs Bathgate said, but each year she was amazed at how keen gardeners were still able to grow flowers and put on a great display.

''Hopefully, over the next week, the weather will pick up.''

More than 50 exhibits are expected at this Friday's show, which runs from 1pm to 5pm.

A novice section had been created this year for exhibitors who had not showed more than five times before, she said.

''It's for people who are not professionals.''

There would also be baking, produce, vegetables, plants and raffles for sale, to raise funds for the church, she said.

Between $2000 and $3000 had been raised in previous years, and it was hoped a similar amount could be raised this year.
