A crafty bunch of women from a Dunedin club are seeking new members.

Mosgiel Inner Wheel president Carol McRobie-Shaw, of Mosgiel, said the women's club met once or twice a month to create craft projects to give to the community.

The club started in 1974 and was originally exclusively for the wives of Rotary Club members.

About 15 years ago, the membership was extended to the wives' friends and family.

For the past four years, the club has opened its membership to all women.

The ages of the 22 club members ranged from the late 50s to 90s but younger members were welcome to join.

''We'd absolutely love it.''

The members brought a range of skills such as sewing, knitting and book-keeping.

However, the only skill needed was being willing to help, she said.

The club was in good health but was always after new members.

For a recent club project, the members created 250 wheat bags for Otago Community Hospice.

A wheat bag is designed to be heated and soothe aches, pains, sore muscles and tension around the neck.

The club bought 12m of polar fleece and was given two sacks of wheat from a Balclutha supplier.

Ingenuity was often needed when working with donated goods, she said.

Mrs McRobie- Shaw used a blowervac to remove ''dust and husks'' from the wheat before stuffing the bags.

For another project, the members last year knitted 450 puppets to put in ''distraction packs'' to be given to children when they arrived at Dunedin Hospital's Emergency Department.

Anybody wanting to join can call Mrs McRobie-Shaw on 489-8996.
