The Dunedin City Council voted to reduce the number of community boards and the number of members per board and the area of Dunedin covered by them. A rural section of the current Mosgiel Taieri board will be amalgamated with the Strath Taieri board creating a giant rural ward called the Rural Taieri Community Board. The Taieri Times asks Strath Taieri Community Board chairman Barry Williams if the board will appeal the decision.
A: Yes, we feel that with what they've proposed, we will have no voices at this end. You have to appeal by October 9, which we will do.
Q: Are you hopeful the appeal will change the outcome?
A: Not really. It will be a dead duck - they've made their b***** mind up but we'll go down fighting.
