Glenn McMillan is wanted on a serious assault charge after the incident in the suburb of Mornington on 25 August.
The man is 29 years old, 171cm tall and of a thin build.
He has the name "SAVANNAH" tattooed on his left forearm and what appears to be a tribal tattoo on his right forearm.
If anyone has seen Mr McMillan, or knows where he is, they should contact the Dunedin Central Police Station on 03 471 4800 or Detective Mike Bracegirdle on 021 191 5112.
