Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla will pay a visit to Dunedin on their New Zealand tour next month.

The royal couple's visit also takes in stops in the Waikato, Nelson, Ngaruwahia, Westport, and New Plymouth, Fairfax media reports.

Dates are yet to be confirmed, but the couple will arrive in Wellington on November 4.

They head south after the Wellington visit and they are scheduled to arrive into Dunedin at the Railway Station.

Camilla will attend a literary reception at Otago University, where Dunedin's status as a UNESCO City of Literature will be celebrated.

The couple will also pay a visit the Orokonui Ecosanctuary.

Their New Zealand trip includes a meeting to the Maori King movement at Turangawaewae Marae in Waikato.

The visit has been lauded as a victory by Maori royalty, who believe they were snubbed last year by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their son Prince George.

This will be a return to Turangawaewae for Charles, who visited in 1994, but will his first time there with his wife.

"I'm looking forward to meeting the Duchess of Cornwall. This will be her first visit to my marae where I intend to introduce her to as much of my home and Maaoritanga as possible," King Tuheitia said.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess last visited New Zealand in 2012 for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

It will be the second visit by members of the royal family to New Zealand this year, following Prince Harry's week-long tour in May, which cost the taxpayer $426,317.

The royal visit of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, and baby Prince George to New Zealand in 2014 cost $1,035,000.

The Kingitanga movement was founded in 1858 and aimed to unite tribal Maori under a single sovereign, King Tawhiao.
