Grants for Riding for the Disabled and play group

At a meeting in the Civic Centre on Thursday, the Saddle Hill Community Board members moved to give two community groups grants.

Board deputy chairwoman Pam Jemmett said the board moved to give Riding for the Disabled in Fairfield up to $2000 to concrete an area to wash horses.

The quotes to concrete the area ''were a bit loose'' so the board agreed to give up to $2000 towards the project.

The project could cost under $2000, she said.

The board also moved to give Brighton Ocean View Family Playgroup $500 to buy toys for the group.

• Three Fairfield residents attended the meeting to express their opposition to a BMX track being built at Walton Park, Mrs Jemmett said.

The board reassured the residents if Walton Park was selected as a suitable site to build a track, there would be public consultation.

''We assured them nothing had got off the ground and given the strength of opposition it was probably unlikely,'' she said.
