Mosgiel Community Foodbank co-ordinator Michelle Kerr (front, centre) receives a donation of foodstuffs and other household products organised by Sheila Wall, of Touch Your Heart Ltd, (left) at the Mosgiel Holistic Centre, with centre co-owners Lynette and John Mills.

The donation of foodstuffs and other goods, valued about $800, was ''absolutely wonderful'', Mrs Kerr said.

The lead-in to Christmas was a time of high demand for foodbanks, and the foodbank was working hard to build up its supply to meet rising community need.

The annual Mosgiel foodbank drive will be held on Monday, December 7, from 6pm.

Emergency services vehicles, along with Lions members and more than 100 volunteers, will gather bags and boxes of groceries, toys and other items.

The drive covers Mosgiel, East Taieri, Kinmont, Allanton, Outram, Brighton, Green Island, Abbotsford, Sunnyvale and Fairfield.

Residents are asked to listen for the sirens. Each year, the Mosgiel foodbank distributes about 660 parcels and 120 Christmas food parcels.
