SDHB named Plunket sole provider

The Southern District Health Board has named Plunket as its sole provider of pregnancy and parenting education services.

Until now, the service was provided by eight community entities and an in-house service at Dunedin Hospital.

Planning and funding head Sandra Boardman said the change meant an equal level of service across Otago and Southland.

Plunket, which is one of the existing providers, will take over the whole service next April.

Some of the affected organisations will continue to provide the service even though they have lost their health board funding.

One example is Dunedin Home Births Association, which will continue to provide the service after the change in April next year.
