Monitoring environment

A national environmental monitoring project is being co-ordinated in Dunedin.

The website Land, Air, Water Aotearoa is run collaboratively by the country's regional councils and unitary councils, which form Local Government New Zealand.

Caroline Rowe was the site's Dunedin-based project manager for 18 months before becoming the Otago Regional Council's director of public engagement late last year.

Site co-ordination work is still being undertaken by other contract staff in Dunedin and people elsewhere are contributing to the running of the site.

The site updates New Zealanders about environmental conditions throughout the country, including water quality in rivers and at beaches.

Water testing results, including from Dunedin, are available on www.lawa.org.nz.
