People scrambled to secure the best seats for the main events at iD Dunedin Fashion Week when tickets went on sale at 9am on Monday.

Tickets to the Friday and Saturday shows and the iD International Emerging Designer Awards were offered. The fashion week runs from March 12-20.

Clare Larson and Tracey Thomson, of Dunedin, snapped up 20 tickets to the Friday fashion show at the Regent Theatre yesterday. The show will be held at the Dunedin Railway Station.

Ms Larson said they secured tickets in the third row in order to entertain ANZ bank clients, something they did every year.

"We wanted to be able to get front-row seats this year,'' she said.

"We had trouble getting 20 [tickets online] so we came here [to the Regent].''

The ticketing system was so busy online, Ms Larson had to settle for seats in the third row.

Tickets had sold well yesterday and by about 2.30pm 439 had been snapped up for the three shows, 60% of those online.

iD event manager Nicky Rennie said all three events had sold out in previous years and she was confident this year would be no different.

"With this year's new-look show line-up alongside the incredible talent coming through ... our premier shows look set to be an absolute success,'' Ms Rennie said.

"[It] is shaping up to make for a fabulous celebration of our 17th annual iD Dunedin Fashion Week.''

People could expect to see clothing from internationally renowned designers including Emilia Wickstead, Zambesi, Charmaine Reveley and Julian Danger.

Other events confirmed for the week included fashion tours, talks, exhibitions, pop-up stores, a question and answer evening with iD deputy chairwoman Prof Margot Barton and a women's golf tournament.

An associated event would feature internationally renowned Japanese shoemaker Takano Keitaro exhibiting a selection of hand-crafted luxury shoes at Olveston Historic Home.
