Dunedin city organist David Burchell takes a master class in articulation in the St Joseph's Cathedral chapel during the first day of the Australia and New Zealand College of Organists Academy yesterday.

He is one of several tutors at the academy, giving master classes and concerts during the four-day event, which aims to share skills with young organists to ensure there is a next generation of good organ players.

About 20 master classes will be held during the event on subjects ranging from Bach to contemporary/experimental organ music.

Students at the academy will give an organ recital at St Paul's Cathedral tomorrow between 7.30pm and 8.15pm.
