Series of free events for Octagon

The Dunedin City Council is hosting a series of free events in the Octagon in the next couple of months.

The family events have been given the name "Poptagon'' and include a play, music and several steampunk-themed events.

Council events special projects co-ordinator Tammy Jackman said the aim of Poptagon was to bring people into the heart of the city creating a buzz and atmosphere while showcasing Dunedin's talented and creative community.

"Events are an important part of Dunedin's city life allowing visitors and residents to feel connected, and to celebrate our city as a unique and special place,'' she said.

The Poptagon events schedule from February to April are as follows:

● Meet the cast and crew of Fortune Theatre play Kings Of The Gym, February 12, 12.30pm to 1.15pm, Upper Octagon

● Performance by singer-songwriter Matt Langley, February 19, 12.30pm to 1.15pm, Upper Octagon

● Performance by alt-folk/blues-soul duo Jo Little and Jared Smith, February 26, 12.30pm to 1.15pm, Upper Octagon

● Victorian Steam Punk Summer Series: Steampunk have-a-go day (wearable arts registration), April 3, 1pm to 3pm, Lower Octagon; ray gun and goggle making session, April 10, 1pm to 3pm, Lower Octagon; mini wearable arts fashion show, April 17, 1pm to 3pm, Lower Octagon; grand finale day, April 24, 1pm to 3pm, Lower and Upper Octagon.
