Cars targeted in Dunedin

Police are reminding the public to ensure their vehicles are locked after cars were targeted in Dunedin suburbs this week.

A tyre was stolen from a car parked at a house in North Rd in Northeast Valley between Tuesday and yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said the car had been "jacked up'' with a block of wood and a rear tyre on the driver's side was taken.

Fishing gear, a $100 Sony amp and about $500 of tools including a spanner and ratchet set were stolen from a locked car at Ravensbourne Boating Club in Ravensbourne Rd between 3pm on Wednesday and 6.45am today.

A rear quarter light window in a car parked at Bethunes Gully in North Dunedin was smashed yesterday between 11am and 2pm.

The car was searched, but nothing was taken.

Snr Sgt Waru urged people to keep vehicles locked, remove valuable items and report any suspicious behaviour.
