Most people have one party when they turn 100, but Molly Brown, proudly showing off two birthday cards, has had three.

The Brooklands Retirement Village and Rest Home resident enjoyed afternoon tea with friends yesterday.

On her birthday, last Monday, Mrs Brown (nee McPhail) had morning tea and a meal with residents and family.

The next day she had a family lunch at Glenfalloch, attended by her brother Jock (97), of Christchurch, and sister Gwen (93), of Masterton.

Her son, Graeme, of Mosgiel, said he had to limit lunch guests to about 30. Unusually for someone of her age, she had kept in contact with many people.

Born in Gisborne, Mrs Brown spent her formative years in Dunedin, moving to Roxburgh in 1946. She retired to Mosgiel in 1993, and moved into the rest-home in September. REPORT: EILEEN GOODWIN/PHOTO: PETER MCINTOSH
