More suspicious behaviour in South Dunedin

Police say more suspicious behaviour has been reported in South Dunedin.

On Thursday night, a woman living in Millington St, South Dunedin, told police about suspicious activity on her property over the past three weeks.

A window was cracked at the back of her home, the woman told police, possibly because someone had tried to stand on the window ledge and enter the house. She had also told police she had heard sounds on her property on about four different occasions.

This follows a report in yesterday's Otago Daily Times detailing police suspicions about a man in nearby Corstorphine knocking on doors and peering in windows.

A neighbour of the woman in Millington St said she had, on one occasion, seen a man on the woman's property.

The man had said he was looking for his dog - a similar story to the one used by the man seen in Corstorphine, police said.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said police believed the incidents were related.

‘‘If you have someone on a property with a seemingly legit' purpose to be there, but it doesn't quite fit, call us,'' she said.

Police wanted to speak to the man.

Nothing had been taken from the Millington St woman's home, Snr Sgt Waru said.

● A Toyota Hiace was taken from in front of St Kilda Tavern between 7pm on Thursday and 7am yesterday.

The van had the lettering ‘‘Brocklebanks Dry Cleaners and Leather Specialists'', and was marked with a penguin logo.

Snr Sgt Waru said the company ‘‘would like their van back, please''.
