Church’s consent conditions appealed

The Exclusive Brethren's plans for a new church on the Taieri Plain are on hold - for now, at least - after appeals were lodged with the Environment Court.

It was confirmed yesterday AgResearch and the Glenelg Gospel Trust had both lodged appeals seeking changes to the planned new church's consent conditions.

AgResearch owns the Invermay agricultural research campus and farm, located next to the proposed Factory Rd church site.

The Glenelg Gospel Trust owns the Exclusive Brethren's existing church at Glenelg St, in Kaikorai Valley, and was the applicant seeking to build the new church on the Taieri.

AgResearch, in its appeal, said it wanted a "no complaints'' covenant, which was imposed on the church when consent was granted in December, to be extended.

The wording of the existing consent conditions meant the covenant did not cover one of the site's two lots, and did not adequately protect future development of the campus from reverse sensitivity problems.

The Glenelg trust wanted conditions requiring the demolition of an existing house on site, and the supply of water, to be eased slightly.
