The body of former Dunedin bar owner Mark Deason is expected back in Dunedin today, after the 41-year-old died following a motorbike crash in Denpasar, Bali.

The owner of the former Dunedin student bar the Bowler died on March 5.

Friend Brent Cowles, of Otematata, travelled to Bali to bring his body home.

Mr Cowles said from Auckland he arrived back in New Zealand yesterday.

He planned to return to Dunedin today with Mr Deason's body.

The funeral is planned for Wednesday.

A Givealittle page set up to help with the cost of bringing Mr Deason's body home showed last night $17,590 had been given.

Mr Cowles said that was "just a testament to the people he [Mr Deason] surrounded himself with over the last few years''.
