Motorist injured taking action to avoid collision on SH1

Police want to hear from witnesses who may have spotted a white northbound car early yesterday, after a woman motorist was hurt taking evasive action to avoid the vehicle, north of Waihola.

The 33-year-old female driver and sole occupant of a southbound Mazda car received a suspected neck injury and broken rib when her car struck a bank, causing moderate frontal damage, at 6.40am.

It is understood the woman received medical treatment but did not have life-threatening injuries.

Her car went out of control at road works about 3km north of Waihola, police said.

"She reported that a white car heading north towards her on State Highway 1 was fish-tailing on the loose gravel, causing her to take evasive action to avoid a collision,'' police said.

Consequently, she lost control and left the road.

She believed the white vehicle, of mid size, possibly contained two occupants.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may be able to provide details of the offending vehicle.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Senior Sergeant Al Dickie, area response manager Clutha Taieri, at the Balclutha police.

Emergency services from Outram, Milton and Balclutha attended.
