Police are scouring Brighton for a man said to be armed with a screwdriver following a robbery at the township's dairy tonight.
The incident occurred about 7pm at the On the Spot convenience store.
A police spokeswoman confirmed police were at the scene of a robbery, but no further information was available yet
Onlookers earlier told the Otago Daily Times an offender armed with a screwdriver had attempted to rob the store.
It was not yet clear if money had been taken, but cash was clearly visible scattered on the floor of the shop.
There was a heavy police presence in the area, including a police dog and handler, as the search for the offender continued.
