Unclear on campus shooting threat inquiry

It is unclear whether Dunedin police are still actively investigating an online shooting threat to University of Otago students last year.

Specialist police were investigating the threat posted on bulletin board website 4chan in October.

Asked by the Otago Daily Times if police were ‘‘actively working on the investigation'', if the high-tech crime group was still involved and if police had any ‘‘persons of interest'', a police spokeswoman said there ‘‘isn't a lot we can say at this stage'', as the investigation was ongoing.

University of Otago head of communications Megan McPherson said the university had not had any updates from police on the threat since last year.

The post warned students to stay away from the university and ‘‘expect a shooting'' to occur the following day.
