Allied Press's Timaru community newspaper, The Courier, won the supreme award at last night's NZ Community Newspapers awards in Rotorua, taking the title of best all-round newspaper.
The paper was earlier named best all-round newspaper, 15,000-plus copies, from runner-up Mountain Scene, Allied Press's Queenstown paper.
The company's Gore newspaper, The Ensign, won best all-round newspaper in the up to 14,999 copies category.
Dunedin's The Star was the overall winner for community involvement.
Mountain Scene won the best front page, for 15,000-plus copies and its editor, David Williams, was named best senior news journalist.
One of the joint runners-up was the late Frank Marvin, a former Mountain Scene journalist and publisher.
