Dog which bit boy released, rehomed

A dangerous Dunedin dog which bit a boy is to be rehomed.

A crossbreed dog was impounded by the Dunedin City Council after biting the 11-year-old on May 21.

Council senior animal services officer Peter Hanlin said he spoke to the boy and his family on Monday.

Mr Hanlin would not reveal the extent of the boy's injuries.

"He's extremely resilient and doing well. He's fine.''

The council yesterday decided the dog should be classified dangerous, released and rehomed at a new address. The original owner was given an infringement notice.

The dog would be rehomed to someone known to the original owner.

Mr Hanlin was confident the new owner would abide by conditions set by the council. He would not disclose the conditions.
