Yesterday, the Otago Daily Times reported concerns raised by a nearby business about the loss of car parks if the head office was built on the Dunedin City Council car park at 15 Dowling St.
Responding to a request for comment, Mr Taylor said that it was "early days''.
"The parking requirements and who pays for what will be a matter negotiated between the ORC and the DCC once we see and understand what is proposed in the development.''
The council was ‘‘well aware'' of demand for parking in the area.
"A number of development proposals have been put before the DCC for the Dowling St site in the past, all of which have included the development of car parking.
"The ORC development, if it went ahead, would require car parking for its own purposes and the DCC would work with the proposal to develop public parking spaces.
"We would undertake the appropriate feasibility study, as is prudent for any development, and then work on the parking development required.
"It is obviously still very early days and the DCC has not as yet been briefed in detail about the ORC proposal,'' Mr Taylor said.
The ORC hopes to establish, by March 1919, a three-level head office building of 3000sq m.
Les Mills club manager Peter Lee, whose gym is across the street from the car park, said if the proposal went ahead, a multistorey car parking building on the site would be "critical'' for the area's future.
