Date set for Sth Dunedin attempted murder trial

A trial date has been set for a man accused of an attempted murder in South Dunedin.

Daryen Leslie John Owens, of Dunedin, appeared before Justice Wylie via audio visual link in the High Court at Dunedin today.

He was charged with attempted murder after a 40-year-old woman was seriously assaulted in Cutten St early on February 7 this year.

The 43-year-old has denied the charge. His case was set down for a hearing in Dunedin on February 13 next year.

The trial was likely to take about two weeks, Crown counsel Robin Bates said.

For Owens, counsel John Westgate confirmed there were no outstanding matters.

Owens was remanded in custody until the trial.
