Michael Armstrong, as Mr Wizowski, demonstrates his feats of balance while conducting a musical piece during his show Blown Away at the Mary Hopewell Theatre, University of Otago College of Education, Dunedin, on Saturday.

Mr Armstrong presented four performances of the show during the weekend. He studied circus skills and performance and had been performing for eight years.

He described his show as a "silent community circus''.

"That's where a lot of the comedy comes from because you are trying to connect non-verbally with the audience members, and when they misinterpret you, that's where the comedy comes from,'' he said.

Remaining silent also allowed him to connect with a wider audience, engaging children and adults alike.

He will perform in Invercargill from Wednesday to Sunday this week.
