Stadium fight going to High Court

Opponents of the proposed $200 million Dunedin stadium have taken the fight to the High Court.

Stop the Stadium group president Bev Butler said today the group had filed an injunction notice in the High Court in a bid to stop the Dunedin City Council from entering into a contract in relation to the construction of the proposed stadium.

The group said it was unlawful for the council to enter into a contract until it had completed consultation on its long term community plan.

Support for the controversial stadium to replace Carisbrook has been far from unanimous.

The community has been split over whether the region can afford the new stadium, which would be New Zealand's largest indoor venue.
