Police called to row over signs

Police were called to deal with a row between two Dunedin businesses yesterday, following what has been a two-year dispute over a sign.

Indy Karts owner Marion Hill contacted the Otago Daily Times recently with her concerns her neighbour, Peter Scobie of Peter Scobie Motors, was covering the sign on Kaikorai Valley Rd showing the entrance to her business, with his own sign.

Mr Scobie removed the sign, but a dispute arose yesterday about branches Mr Scobie said had blown across the sign in high winds.

Ms Hill said when the branches were pushed away, Mr Scobie pushed them back, before a discussion she said "got heated".

She said Mr Scobie then erected a board that covered her sign, which is on the border of the two properties.

Mr Scobie said the dispute was over the boundary, his neighbours were "making a storm in a teacup" and he had called police because of threatening behaviour.

The board had been removed yesterday afternoon.

Police were investigating.
