Finding a summer job is off Hannah Davidson's to-do list,
along with paying for university, after she received a First
Foundation scholarship last month.
The Queens High School year 12 pupil applied for the
scholarship in August and was happy to learn she was
successful.
"It takes a bit of stress off," she said.
It includes three years of course fees paid, a mentor and a
summer job. She intends to study medicine at the University
of Otago and will begin her job at Gardens New World when
school finishes this year.
Once trained, Hannah wants to travel overseas and volunteer
in countries in need.
The scholarships were designed to support talented young
people achieve their dreams of tertiary education.
Queens principal Julie Anderson said they were a
"hand-up, not a hand-out".
It was the first time the scholarship had been awarded to a
Dunedin pupil, as previously they focused on Auckland,
Wellington and Christchurch.
