First they picketed, and now a group of Dunedin members of
the PSA have written a rap in a bid to bring disgruntled
court workers a step closer to the negotiating table.
One of the writers, who did not want to be identified, said
the ditty centred around PSA members' concerns that the
salary of Ministry of Justice chief executive Belinda Clark
had increased by $70,000 since 2006, while court workers were
paid 13% less than other government workers.
The rap starts: "We are folks from the ministry.
Administering justice for the community.
"Belinda Clark is on great pay. Half-a-million a year they
say. Man, oh, man that's great pay. That's over 1300 bucks a
day."
It concludes: "We are only asking to be able, to get around
the negotiating table. And ask our boss to compare, the wages
of other workers and treat us fair."
The group hoped the rap, titled Rapping it out for
Justice, would be picked up by their PSA "brothers and
sisters" and used on picket lines.
