ACC levy protest

Otago motorcyclists plan to show their opposition to proposed increases in ACC levies with a rally from Mosgiel to the Octagon tomorrow.

Under the Government's ACC amendment Bill, some motorcyclists could face increases of about $250, others almost $500, depending on the size of their bike.

Bronz Otago secretary Nat Voight said motorcyclists would gather at the Mosgiel Railway Station from 10am and then ride along the motorway and on to the one-way system before turning up Frederick St and heading to the Octagon.

While there, they would be addressed by Labour MP Pete Hodgson.

Motorcycle clubs around the region and in Southland had been notified and it was hoped many riders would join the rally, she said.

"It's a very strong issue for us. Motorcyclists feel like they have been unfairly targeted."

The ride would support a similar rally taking place in Christchurch, she said.
