Parking changes by Monday

The majority of parking changes decided recently for Dunedin will be in place by Monday.

Dunedin City Council city environment general manager Tony Avery said yesterday work had begun last Sunday.

The programming of most meters had been changed, and signs were changed yesterday.

The changes reduce inner-city parking from $4 to $3 an hour, and parking in surrounding areas to $2 or $1.

Maximum time limits have also been reduced.

Another change will be to the cost of parking in council-owned parking buildings, which will be $1 an hour for drivers who arrive before 10am, $1 an hour on Saturdays and free on Sundays.

The changes were agreed to earlier this month, after complaints about a new parking regime introduced in July.

After this many months...

Is that really the whole story on the changes coming into fruition? Nothing about the epic battle between business and council. Nothing about how much it has cost the council not to get it right in the first place. Not even a mention of if it's not broke, don't fix it.
