The Blueskin General Store received an unplanned alteration
yesterday when a truck delivering groceries hit one of the
support beams for an overhead canopy at the front of the
store.
Store owner Brent Bell, who leases the building on State
Highway 1 near Waitati, said the delivery truck from Waitaki
Transport hit the beam about 6.30am.
The canopy buckled on top of the damaged beam, punching a
hole in the roof.
The store was closed until 2pm while a crane lifted the
teetering steel canopy away from the building.
The trucking company accepted responsibility for the damage,
Mr Bell said.
