A promising 15-year-old Dunedin motocross racer has died in
Dunedin Hospital after a crash on a track at Titri Park, near
Waihola, on Wednesday.
Karl Daniel Miller, of Waldronville, was flown from Titri
Park about 3.30pm after he received a critical head injury
when he fell from his his bike.
He later died in hospital.
Members of the Dunedin motocross community were in shock
after hearing the news yesterday.
Mike Palmer, vice-president of the Mosgiel District
Motorcycle Club, of which Karl was a member, said the teen
was a good boy who had a bright future in motocross and was
always placed in the top three in competitions he entered.
"He was definitely on his way up."
He had ridden since he was a young boy and put a lot of hours
and passion into the sport.
"He was one you always looked out for.
"It's very unfortunate for the life of a guy of his talent to
end so soon."
The Miller family was heavily involved in motocross and Karl
and his brother both "lived on the bike", he said.
The death was a blow to the club, and he had received dozens
of a calls from shocked club members as the news spread
yesterday.
