The number of council chief executives in Dunedin will
increase by 37 today as the local government chief officers
group meeting is held in Dunedin for the first time.
Dunedin City Council chief executive Jim Harland said
yesterday eight visitors were from New Zealand and the rest
from Australia.
The meeting would be opened at the Chinese Garden this
evening, and its subject would be economic development: the
role of government and infrastructure.
Speakers would include the Minister for Local Government,
Rodney Hide, and University of Otago deputy vice-chancellor
of research and enterprise Prof Harlene Hayne on university,
stadium and the future.
The chief executives would visit the university Centre for
Innovation, and the Forsyth Barr Stadium.
