Prices rose at the first substantial offering of wool for the
new selling season, with 85% of the 17,800 bales on offer
selling.
New Zealand Wool Services International reports demand for
the combined sale of North and South Island wool once again
overcame a strengthening exchange rate, with the price for
fine crossbred wool leading the way, firming in price by up
to 4% compared to the last sale on July 8.
Longer length fine crossbred fleece fell by up to 3%.
Coarse carpet fleece-type wool was up to 2% stronger, with
second shear rising 1% to 2%.
A nominal offering of long lamb's wool was up to 7% dearer,
while shorter lines were steady.
It was a similar sale for coarse oddments, with lines rising
6% to 11% and shorter lots between 1% and 3%.
Prices for a small offering of mid micron wool fell by up to
1.5%.
Buyers were from China, India, the Middle East and the United
Kingdom, as well as carpet mills from Western Europe,
Australia and New Zealand.
