Ploughing competition

The Tokomairiro Ploughing Match Association held its annual ploughing match on the Allison family farm on November 2.

The match included the vintage plough-off to select two ploughmen to compete in the New Zealand Ploughing Championship competition at Blenheim on May 10 and 11, 2014.

The vintage class in the New Zealand competition includes two ploughmen from Otago/Southland, two from Canterbury, one from Marlborough and two from the North Island.

Murray Grainger, of Mosgiel, came first in the plough-off.

It will be the second time he competes in a New Zealand final.

Tom Fowler, of Tuatapere, came second and will compete in the New Zealand vintage final for the first time.

He will be walking behind his two-furrow Fowler plough, made by his father's uncle, John Fowler, of Mosgiel.
