Adventurer to speak at April Waitahuna fundraiser

Adventurer, hunter and businessman Davey Hughes, of Swazi New Zealand, will be guest speaker at a fundraiser for Waitahuna School in April.

Board of trustees member Grant Murray said Mr Hughes was to speak at a dinner function at the Simpson Park, in Lawrence, on April 24.

''It is our major fundraiser for the year,'' Mr Murray said.

In addition, Mr Hughes will judge school pupils' ''critter catches''. The pupils will catch ''critters'', including a possum, rabbit, hare and eel and anything else they get that is wild.

In addition there will be a sausage sizzle, games and a ''secret special attraction'' for them.

''It is something a bit different,'' he said.

The evening function will include dinner and raffles. A ski lift pass and accommodation at Wanaka has been donated as a raffle prize, as well as silver earrings from Weatherall Jewellers, and a spa package.

Money raised will go towards IT and sports equipment.
