Call out for entrants in wheat-growing competition

The call is out for entries in a wheat-growing competition.

United Wheatgrowers NZ Ltd, with support from ATS, will again hold its annual wheat-growing competition.

Crops harvested in 2014 are eligible for entry in four classes: premium milling wheat, gristing milling wheat, feed wheat and biscuit wheat.

Trophies and sponsored prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third placing in each category.

Tim Dale, general manager ATS Seed, said this would be the fourth year of competition since the event was re-established after being in recess.

The number of entries had been growing each year, although it depended on the harvest quality.

''We are still hoping farmers will support it, as there have been some good crops,'' he said.

Entries must be with ATS by May 31. Judging will be in June, with a prizegiving in July.
