People with an association with Longslip Station, near Omarama, are being invited to attend the property's 150th anniversary next month.

The celebration, on March 21 and 22, will mark 150 years since the first pastoral lease was taken out by Robert McMurdo on September 5, 1858.

Longslip Station is on State Highway 8, on the Omarama-Lindis Pass road.

The property got its name from John Turnbull Thomson, who made the first survey of Otago and Southland and named Longslip Creek and Longslip Mountain after the scarred hill near the summit of the Lindis Pass.

The Patterson family has held the lease of Longslip since 1947.

In February last year, tenure review was completed.

The Crown took over some of the high country and the remainder being freeholded.

A variety of events have been organised to mark the anniversary.

Anyone who has lived, worked or had an association with the station can register their interest via www.longslip.co.nz or by phoning Wendy Parsons on (03) 438-9568
