Prices eased for most types of wool at last week's combined
South and North Island wool sale.
A large offering of 28,000 bales, 28% more than rostered, and
a shortage of shipping space limiting exporters' ability to
buy wool, combined to cancel any price benefits from a lower
exchange rate.
Compared with the February 18 sale, fine crossbred fleece
went against the trend, firming by up to 6% but coarse carpet
full fleece and shorter shears were 3% cheaper, first lambs
wool and oddments were firm to 2% easier.
Buyers were from Australian and New Zealand carpet mills,
India, China the Middle East, Western Europe and the United
Kingdom.
