Kiwifruit growers could be in for another bumper season after
a successful 2009 crop.
With some growers beginning their harvest today, early
indications on the quality and volume of the fruit suggested
2010 will be another good year, Zespri spokeswoman Carol Ward
said.
"It is an exciting time for the New Zealand kiwifruit
industry coming off the back of a successful 2009 season,"
she said.
"Worldwide, people are beginning to recover from the economic
downturn which bodes well for our industry." Ms Ward said
Zespri was currently researching three new varieties of
kiwifruit and a decision on whether they were commercially
viable would be made this year.
