Aaron Meikle has been appointed Meat and Wool New Zealand's
Central South Island extension manager, and supervisor for
the other six extension managers based around the country.
Meat and Wool New Zealand chief executive Scott Champion said
this new structure was designed to build a stronger presence
in the regions.
Oamaru-based Mr Meikle will, in the new role, have a greater
focus on developing and delivering information and resources
to sheep and beef farmers.
Previously, he split his time evenly between extension work
and the Meat and Wool New Zealand economic service's farm
survey, and he will continue to collect data from a few
survey farms.
Mr Meikle said in a statement that areas of extension focus
would be the newly formed Central South Island Sheep and Beef
Council, the monitor farm programme, co-ordinating the
farmer-initiated technology transfer programme; workshops,
seminars and direct communication with farmers, along with
new initiatives.
