The Greater Green Island Family Fun Day is being hailed a success after about 200 people turned out to the inaugural event.

Greater Green Island community development worker Lynda Davidson said the day was ‘‘really successful''.

‘‘Everyone seems to have had a good time,'' she said.

‘‘It's great to get the community out and have a bit of fun.

‘‘We possibly could make it an annual thing.''

Hosted by Green Island School, the day attracted people from the wider Green Island community.

‘‘The main focus is just to get people together and families together [and make] connections with other people in the area.''

St Peter Chanel School pupil Lachie Diack (8) won a three-legged race and said he enjoyed the food on offer the best.

The fun day included a bouncy castle, a lolly scramble, old school games and balloonologist Pippity Pop, who was the highlight.

The Green Island Leos, the Lions Club junior members, ran a raffle and a sausage sizzle to raise funds for the Otago Community Hospice.
