A talented group of Australian teenagers delighted Arrowtown visitors and residents yesterday morning with a musical smorgasbord at Buckingham Green.
The Franciscan Colleges' music group is in New Zealand on its biennial tour and this year comprises 75 pupils from Padua and Mt Alvernia colleges in Brisbane.
Music department head Chris Dodemont said the group performed in Christchurch and Te Anau before coming to Arrowtown.
Today, the group will play at Earnslaw Park in Queenstown before heading back to Christchurch for more performances and then flying home.
Mr Dodemont said the brother and sister schools, both Catholic and formerly run by friars and nuns, had toured New Zealand every second year since 1985.
The group had a percussion ensemble, a rock band, a string section, a big band and a chamber group.
However, not all of its repertoire could be showcased because it was unable to bring all its instruments from Australia, he said.
"It's a holiday, but it's an opportunity to play in front of other people.
"This gives them a chance to do it somewhere else [other than Australia]."
