A Dunedin woman has been crowned the "ultimate" cheese
roll maker.
Joy Jones' recipe for the southern savoury treat was chosen
as the best of 81 entries in the New Zealand International
Science Festival competition in Dunedin today.
Otago University's Professor Phil Bremer and a team in the
food science department scrutinised the cheese rolls, judging
them on appearance, flavour, texture and nutrition.
Prof Bremner said Ms Jones' rolls were a stand out, with a
substantial amount of filling, and a traditional flavour of
onion soup mix and evaporated milk which gave them a real
kiwi theme.
