Two people have been charged with assault after a man was
fatally struck by a car during a street brawl in south
Auckland early this morning.
The 19-year-old victim died after a car drove through a group
of about 20 people in Gifford Road, Papatoetoe, about 1.30am.
Witnesses and emergency services personnel tried to
resuscitate him but he died at the scene.
The two accused would appear in Manukau Youth Court tomorrow.
Police said further charges were likely.
Superintendent Mike Bush said police had spoken to about
eight of the 40 people who witnessed the brawl, and urged all
other witnesses to contact police.
The serious crash unit and Counties-Manukau CIB are
investigating.
