One person has died in a suspicious campervan fire in South
Canterbury this morning.
Police and Fire Safety officers are investigating after a
body was found in the burnt-out campervan at Hanging Rock,
about 23km southwest of Geraldine.
They were called to the scene after a passing motorist
noticed the campervan ablaze shortly after 7am.
Volunteer firefighters from Pleasant Point, about 10km to the
southeast, put out the blaze, Fire Service southern
communications shift manager Andrew Norris said.
The fire was being treated as suspicious.
Police and Fire Service staff from Timaru, Geraldine and
Temuka were at the scene.
