Former senior High Court Judge Sir John Hansen will head the
independent review panel that will assess all legislative and
regulatory changes under the new Canterbury Earthquake
Recovery Act.
Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee named the panel
today. Its members are former prime minister Dame Jenny
Shipley, Anake Goodall and Murray Sherwin.
Mr Goodall is the former chief executive of Te Runanga O Ngai
Tahu and Mr Sherwin is the chairman of the Canterbury
Earthquake Recovery Commission.
The Act, passed by Parliament last week, gives ministers and
the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority wide powers to
cut through existing legislation and make decisions about
demolition and rebuilding.
The panel will scrutinise decisions and tell ministers
whether they think they are appropriate.
