'Excellent drunk driver' remanded for sentence

A 19-year-old storeman caught driving with excess alcohol told police he was "an excellent drunk driver", a court was told today.

Callum Paul Taylor admitted eight motoring offences including drink-driving, careless driving and driving while his licence was suspended, and one of theft when he appeared in Christchurch District Court.

Defence counsel Moana Cole said Taylor acknowledged his alcohol problem, and had been trying to get into a rehabilitation programme.

Judge Jackie Moran remanded him in custody and requested a pre-sentence report be prepared for his sentencing.
