A 30-year-old woman
has been arrested and charged with murder after a man was
stabbed to death in Gisborne last night.
The woman was arrested in Opotiki today and would appear in
the Gisborne District Court tomorrow charged with murder,
police said in a statement.
Police were called to a house on Childers Rd at 10pm and
found the 33-year-old man with stab wounds.
He was taken to Gisborne Hospital by ambulance but died on
arrival.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said earlier today that police
had spoken to a group of people who were at the house last
night.
"We have a number of people to speak to and hopefully we'll
be able to ascertain what happened in the house last night.
There will also be some forensic examinations taking place
today," he said.
This afternoon he said a scene examination was continuing
today and inquiries into the death were continuing.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow.
The dead man's family gathered at the house this morning for
a blessing.
His name would not be released until his next of kin had been
told.
